Little hen garland

Paper circles folded in half turn into plump little hens with a comb, a beak and tail feathers: a colourful garland for Easter.

Age : age 4+

Materials

• Coloured paper : One colour per hen, plus red and yellow or orange.
• A bowl or a glass : To draw circles 10 to 12 cm across.
• Scissors, glue, a stapler : The grown-up handles the stapler with younger children.
• Felt tips or stickers : For the eyes and patterns.
• A piece of string : To hang the garland.

Steps

The hens

1. Draw round the bowl on each sheet of coloured paper and cut out the circle.
2. Fold each circle in half: that's the body, rounded at the bottom with the fold at the top.
3. Cut out a small wavy red comb and a yellow triangle for the beak.
4. Slide the comb into the fold at the top of one end and glue it. Glue the beak just in front.
5. Cut 3 strips of paper for the tail, curl them a little round a pencil and glue them to the other end.
6. Draw an eye on each side and decorate the body with stickers or patterns.

The garland

1. Open each hen slightly and sit it astride the string, with the fold against the string.
2. Close it again and fix it with a staple or a dab of glue under the fold.
3. Space the hens about 15 cm apart and hang up the garland.

Add smaller yellow chicks between the hens, or stand the hens up on the table (without string) as place cards.

If it goes wrong

• The hens slide along the string : A staple or a bit of tape under each fold.
• The tail falls off : Glue it inside the fold, where it holds better.

Safety

• The grown-up handles the stapler with younger children.
