Ghost and pumpkin snack
Bananas turned into ghosts, clementines into pumpkins: an all-fruit Halloween snack, ready in ten minutes.
Age : age 3+; the grown-up does the cutting
Materials
- Bananas : Half a banana per ghost.
- Clementines
- Chocolate chips or raisins : For the ghosts' eyes and mouths.
- A celery stick or a mint leaf : For the pumpkins' stalks.
- A knife for the grown-up
Steps
Prepare
- The grown-up cuts the bananas in half across.
- Stand each half upright, cut side down: that's the ghost.
- Push in two chocolate chips for eyes, and a bigger one (or a raisin) for the mouth.
- Peel the clementines, keeping the segments together.
- The grown-up cuts a little celery stick and pushes it into the centre at the top: that's the pumpkin stalk.
- Arrange ghosts and pumpkins on a big plate, and enjoy.
Apple wedges with a row of almonds make monster mouths; hard-boiled eggs with two olive-paste eyes make savoury ghosts.
If it goes wrong
- Bananas go brown : Cut them at the last minute, or add a squeeze of lemon.
- Eyes fall out : Push them in firmly.
Safety
- Watch out for allergies (nuts, chocolate) if friends are coming.
- Cut raisins and small hard pieces for under-3s.
- The knife stays with the grown-up.
