Hanging paper plate ghost
A paper plate cut into a ghost, big round eyes and long streamers that flutter in the slightest draught.
Age : age 3+
Materials
- A white paper plate
- White crepe paper or tissue paper : Or strips of white bin bag.
- Black marker or black paper : For the eyes and mouth.
- Glue or sticky tape, scissors
- A piece of string : To hang it up.
Steps
Make
- Draw a ghost shape on the plate in pencil: a rounded head at the top, a wavy bottom.
- Cut along the line (the grown-up helps with the thick rim of the plate).
- Draw or glue on two big black eyes and a mouth: surprised, giggly or spooky.
- Cut 5 or 6 long strips of crepe paper.
- Glue them behind the bottom of the ghost: they hang down like a floating sheet.
- Make a small hole at the top, thread the string through and hang it near a window.
Add two paper arms going “boo!”, or make a string of ghosts in different sizes on the same piece of string.
If it goes wrong
- The plate's rim is hard to cut : The grown-up cuts the rim, the child finishes the inside.
- The streamers come unstuck : A piece of tape on each strip.
