Paper plate pumpkin
A paper plate painted orange becomes a grinning or spooky pumpkin, with its stalk, leaf and cut-out eyes.
Age : age 3+
Materials
- A paper plate : Or a circle cut from cardboard.
- Orange paint : Or red and yellow to mix yourself.
- Black, green and brown paper : For the face, leaf and stalk.
- Glue and scissors
- A wide brush or a sponge
Steps
Make
- Mix red and yellow to get orange: that's already a little colour experiment.
- Paint the whole top of the plate and leave to dry.
- From black paper, cut two triangle eyes, a nose and a zigzag mouth.
- Cut a brown stalk and a green leaf.
- Glue on the face, then the stalk and leaf at the top, behind the plate.
- Draw a few curved lines from top to bottom with a marker for the pumpkin's ridges.
A friendly pumpkin and a scary one on the two sides of the plate: turn it round to suit your mood.
If it goes wrong
- Plate warps : Thicker paint, or use a sponge.
- Orange looks muddy : Start with yellow and add red bit by bit.
Safety
- Age-appropriate scissors; the grown-up cuts small details.
