Bunny hunt in the foam
A pouch full of coloured shaving foam, taped over a drawing of a meadow: spread the foam with your fingertips and the hidden bunnies appear.
Age : age 2+
Materials
- A clear plastic pouch that seals well : A zip-lock bag, or a punched pocket taped firmly on all 4 sides.
- Shaving foam : Handled by the grown-up only.
- A few drops of green food colouring : Optional.
- A sheet with bunnies drawn on it : 8 to 10 little bunnies scattered in the grass, drawn by hand.
- A second “tick-off” sheet : The same bunnies, drawn small, to tick off as you find them.
- Wide sticky tape
Steps
Get ready
- Draw a meadow with 8 to 10 little bunnies, each one a bit different (one with a bow, one asleep, one holding a carrot…).
- On another sheet, draw them again, small, as a tick-off list.
- The grown-up puts a good layer of shaving foam in the pouch, adds the colouring, squeezes out the air and seals it.
- Tape all four edges of the pouch: there must be no way for it to open.
- Tape the pouch over the bunny sheet and spread the foam so everything is hidden.
Play
- Your child presses and spreads the foam with their fingertips: bunnies start to appear.
- Each time they find a bunny, they tick it off their list.
- Smooth everything over to hide them again and start afresh, or swap with a brother or sister.
The same game works for Halloween with ghosts in the night (black or purple foam), or with hidden letters and numbers to practise recognising them.
If it goes wrong
- You can't see anything through it : Take a little out, or press harder.
- The pouch leaks : Double it up with a second pouch and tape along every edge.
Safety
- Shaving foam must not go in mouths or eyes: the grown-up fills the pouch, and never play with a pouch that has a hole in it.
- Keep an eye on little ones who might bite the pouch.
